An epic move

It is said that moving houses is one of the most stressful experiences, and for Corvol we moved twice, over three days: firstly, a vanload of appliances, tables and chairs from Geneva, shared with our old friend Tony; and then the furniture and library of Sonia’s parents, which were in storage in nearby Avallon.

The van arrived on Saturday, driven by Tony, and accompanied by Father Stephen, the priest from nearby Vézelay, and Grégoire, who lent a helping hand.

The next stage was the arrival of the (much larger) truck from Avallon, which only

just managed to squeeze through the gates early on Monday morning. The removal team had brought a ‘monte-charge’, which proved essential to get the beds upstairs, as the spiral staircase would have been challenging even to the wiry strongmen from the company.

By the end of the day, the house was furnished with the essentials, the water and electricity were working, and the outside barn looked more like a brocante – with 30 cases of books still to sort for our future library!
